Orchid Show

Every March, the Naples Orchid Society holds their annual Orchid Show and sale at the Naples United Church of Christ on the corner of Seagate and Crayton Road.  This year marks the 36th show and sale. It will be held Friday March 27 thru Sunday March 29.

Four years ago Jim Connell of our club made contact with the Naples Orchid Society(NOS) and proposed that we  join with them to aid in putting on the orchid show and sale.  This will be the fourth year we have been involved and it is now seamless.

Rotary supplies sponsor money, sells tickets, and helps where needed to set up and run the show. We supply lunches for the judges and judge teams (50 people approx.) on Friday thanks to Tim Wynn of Wynn's Market.

Jim is a member of the NOS and has arranged for tables as the church where we hold the show does not have enough.  The high school has been generous in supplying  tables and both delivering them and picking them up after the show.

This year we have a special ticket available.  Advance tickets are $10 and they qualify the holder for a chance in a drawing for a 46 inch HDTV, entrance to the show for one day and a free PSA exam. Show entrance only is $6.00  and those tickers are sold at the door only.

We will have four orchid vendors at the show and hundreds of exhibits of orchids.

Rotary has a table selling tickets for select prizes.  We will have 4 flowering orchids, a piece of jewelry made by Peggy Sealfon and a lamp from Dave Alger of Whitman Designs.

Rotary receives all the profits from the show for the charity of our choice. This year, as for the last couple of years, Laces of Love is our selected charity.  They provide shoes to needy children in Southwest Florida and many of the children receive the first new pair of shoes they have ever had.

The orchid society  has about 130 members who are very active in volunteering to work at the show and place exhibits.

Please contact Jim Connell for more details.
